Complexity defines EDM/House Music, scaring most people away, but Chicago’s own Acidic Base’s newly released Tachyon album is a seven track powerhouse of amazing, underground dance music. Three amazing singles really define this genre-defining album, and all three are equally stellar in quality.
Tachyon begins hauntingly, but eventually the beats lift up with plenty of energy, sounding like something out of Tron. The spacey, operatic music becomes faster as though you’re moving quickly and further through a wormhole. The combination of dark musical tones and upbeat EDM works really well, especially as it leads to “Spectrum”, an upbeat, victorious, computer generated-sounding number. This is typical techno rave music, but the precision of the beats, the tight production, and multi-instrumentation sounds really blend together very, very well.
With “Dawn”, the musical highlights of this stellar EP continue. The sci-fi-ish production, combined with the slick techno beats added to it, create a nice, utopian listening experience. It’s a mellower tune, but it still has a lot of musical power that fits in well with the previous tracks. Basically, for the EDM crowd it will cause plenty of jumping around at dusk. For the rest, a thrilling experience especially if you’ve never given it a chance. This is how the night should sound. Let’s give this one one beer!
