This week of movie watching was… kinda weird as I tried to put on background noise that somewhat facilitated getting work done.
Hey, you like Halloween, right? Well, here’s more Halloween! Danny McBride and David Gordon Green infuse this cannon-jumping direct sequel with a bit of their comic sensibility, but perhaps wisely stick to playing the hits. Entertaining, if not elevating. Three Beers.
167. Dirty Grandpa
Don’t ask. I’ll admit that I got a few cheap laughs here and there, if only for DeNiro, Efron, and Aubrey Plaza’s deranged commitment to such godawful material, but I didn’t feel good about it. Six Pack.
168. The Old Man & the Gun
Robert Redford stars in a cinematic paean to his own career and longevity as a life-long bank robber and prison escapee who can’t stop dapperly and politely sticking up regional banks well into his 70s. He woos Sissy Spacek, is pursued by Casey Affleck, and references many a past triumph in David Lowery’s signature heavy-grained film magic hour light. Just damn pleasant. Two Beers.
