Movie Review

By: Frankie B. (Five Beers) –

I saw the trailer for this a couple of months ago and it seemed like the same low-brow crap that Vince Vaughn has been putting out lately. Seeing as Vince Vaughn has a lot of accrued credit with me from Swingers, Made, Old School, and Wedding Crashers, I figured I would give this a chance. How can you lose with a cast consisting of Vince Vaughn, Nick Frost, Dave Franco, Tom Wilkinson, Sienna Miller, and James Marsden?

I miss the old Vince Vaughn.

Unfinished Business follows Dan Trunkman as he quits his lucrative job to start his own firm after his boss, Chuck Portnoy (Sienna Miller), lowers his commission percentage. He takes Tim McWinters (Tom Wilkinson) and Mike Pancake (Dave Franco) to form their own company. Dave neglects his wife and children searching for the deal that will bring them financial security. He has to go with his employees to meet with a German firm for the deal of a lifetime and generic comedy hijinks ensue.

A Toast

I’d like to start off by saying that if Dave Franco is the best thing about your movie, you probably made a pretty shit movie. That being said, if you absolutely have to see this movie, you are going to quickly realize that Dave Franco is the only one who tried in this. He is perfectly awkward in every scene he is in. His character is painfully awkward at moments, but it is always funny. The two or three funniest bits in the movie are solely due to his involvement in the scenes. You will certainly never look at a glory hole the same way after seeing this.

Whatever you do, do not type Glory Hole into Google.

Beer Two

Nick Frost is almost completely wasted in this movie, but that has more to do with the writer than his performance. His character definitely could have been more involved and there was some potential with his scene in the gay club.

Beer Three

Vince Vaughn is quickly slipping into Will Ferrell-level mediocrity with this latest dumpster fire. He looks like he gives zero fucks at all times throughout the entire runtime of this. Boring, unfunny, and uncharismatic are just a few of the nicer ways to describe his performance in the movie. I hope he gets paid a ton for these movies because otherwise he is destroying his career for no reason. Dude needs to get back to basics like his buddy Jon Favreau, and quit accepting any role that they give him a script for.

My message to the producers of this.

Beer Four

Why the fuck is Tom Wilkinson even in this movie?

Beer Five

Sienna Miller = Waste of screen space. Just awful. You could probably sub James Marsden into the previous sentence because the same goes for him and his douchey smile.

An accurate representation of what the theater looked like while I was watching this dumpster fire.

Verdict

In a sea of mediocre movies in the opening months of 2015, Unfinished Business might be the worst. It is everything that you do not want from a comedy, dull, bland, and unfunny. See it if you must, but I strongly suggest skipping this and rewatching a comedy that you love.
