One of the very best, and criminally underseen, films of the year finally hits DVD this week. No, it doesn’t have anything whatsoever to do with Adam Sandler, and no, I’m not talking about Bikini Bloodbath Shakespeare.
Hotel Transylvania-
Adam Sandler rediscovered his winning (box office) touch by going the animation route and stealing the much better ParaNorman‘s thunder while he did it. Critical success… not so much. Chris Sheridan breaks it down for ya:
Paranormal Activity 4-
I haven’t felt the urgency to track this one down, although I probably will on DVD. Reportedly, this is where the franchise left the tracks, although it made enough cizzash to warrant a 5th installment. The Cinephiliac dismantles it:
Seven Psychopaths-
Okay, you spotted it. Martin McDonagh of In Bruges fame delivers once again in this delightfully meta, violent, and hilarious deconstruction of the creative process. Jenna Zine (and several MovieBoozer critics) gives it the full Toast treatment:
The Cold Light of Day-
I had the pleasure of reviewing this one, which slouched in and out of theaters before anyone really noticed, with good reason. Why anyone thought to give this thoroughly mediocre to the point of awful actioner a wide release at all makes me scratch my head.
