Trailer Reviews: Finding Nemo (3D), Resident Evil: Retribution

Hollywood is continuing with its pattern of rereleasing popular movies in 3D and capitalizing on successful franchises with this weekend’s releases.  While last week had some lackluster debuts, this weekend appears to have movies that could actually make a buck.  Each Resident Evil movie has outperformed its predecessor, with Afterlife (the 4th installment) grossing more than 290 million dollars worldwide.

Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)

Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil Retribution

The year was 2002 when I first fell in love with Milla Jovovich and I have to say she hasn’t lost her touch now 10 years later.  The trailer begins with the sounds of a happy-go-lucky guitar stum.  Enter an alarm clock and a man asking a blonde Alice (Milla Jovovich) to get her beautiful ass out of bed.  I double-checked that the title of this trailer was Resident Evil.  The faux-family intro fooled me.  Not a moment after a lisping girl tells her smooching mother and father to get a room, an infected zombie creature barrels into the room.  The rest of the trailer is Alice narrating about how she has been used, really adding to the confusion of this movie.  There’s Michelle Rodriguez as well in her typical character role.  I don’t see this movie being a pleasant experience.  Pre-game 3 beers and enjoy with 1 with this flick.

Finding Nemo 3D (2012)

The trailer is a teaser and that’s all you really need to see of it.  Clearly this release is Disney’s Pixar exploiting the popularity of 3D movies.  Frankly, I don’t blame them.  Families will go!  Of the amazing Pixar films out there, Finding Nemo 3D is probably going to be the most fun.  There are many chase scenes that will be exciting as well as the scene where Marlin (Nemo’s Dad) rides the underwater current with the stoned sea turtle.  Pre-game 1 beer and enjoy with a second beer.  The second beer is really just to keep you calm with all the kids talking and shouting in the theater.
