Our YouTube channel, “2 Broke Geeks,” began when we realized we were paying over $100 for our cable bill, and simultaneously realized that we totally did NOT have $100 to be spending on our cable bill.

Like any self-respecting geeks, we love spending money on things. Movie tickets, Box DVD sets, extra channel packages (hello BBC America!), merchandise, collectibles, etc. But there comes a time when you realize that your blu-ray player does little good if your electricity gets shut off. That’s where Netflix came in. At only $8 a month, nearly everyone can afford it– but its selection was constantly growing and changing. Our weekly web show “Hey, That’s on Netflix (instant-watch)!” is our attempt to help fellow broke geeks navigate its vast selection. We give recommendations based on viewer profiles, as well as heads up to just added/expiring titles, and “special” editions (i.e. “How to Start Watching Doctor Who”). Sure, we’re a little geek-centric, but nowadays you can be a “geek” on pretty much anything, so we try to include a wide variety of Movie and TV genres. Our Netflix videos hit YouTube every Friday, but we also release more “for fun” videos every Wednesday (including reviews of the most terrible movies in “Omar Will Watch Anything,” nerdy debates in “Geek vs. Geek,” and instructions on how to throw geek/movie/TV themed parties at the end of every month).

We currently reside in Los Angeles and are UC Santa Barbara Alumni (hence our attraction to the “booze” part of “MovieBoozer”). This week, we’ve selected our favorite (Netflix-streaming only) picks from the extensive MovieBoozer Drinking Game list, hope you enjoy!
