Movie News: Today’s Tobey Maguire Day!

By: Henry J. Fromage –

I am certainly not alone on the internet when I look at the cast of The Long Red Road and begin to salivate slightly.  Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon, playing brothers? As genetically unlikely as that sounds, yes please.  Hardy will play the lead of a drunkard living on an Indian reservation whose past tracks him down. Shannon will play somebody with crazy eyes, I’m assuming.

Seems like a good bet

Tobey Maguire’s awful busy all of the sudden since The Great Gatsby’s delayed release gave him a little time to play around with.  He’ll both produce and play the lead of Z for Zachariah, which isn’t the last of a series of Age 2 and Up children’s books but rather a post-apocalyptic story in which a teen girl survives a nuclear and biological attack due to the self-contained weather system of her valley.  Maguire will play a probably dirty, bearded scientist who wanders into her little world.

Damn, this is strange

Maguire continued his busy week by signing up for Ed Zwick’s Pawn Sacrifice, in which he’ll play eccentric chess player Bobby Fischer, who rose to grand master rank by the age of fifteen and famously defeated Russian champion Boris Spassky before removing himself from the game and later forfeiting his title, clashing with the U.S. government, and going into exile. Sounds like some quality material, although Maguire’s getting a little long in the tooth to be playing fifteen…

Actually, yeah, I’d still buy it…
