Movie News: New DVD Releases July 31st

So, there’s a whole lot of nothing (that we’ve reviewed anyway) coming out this week on DVD.  We may get around to reviewing last year’s Cannes favorite Le Havre or Brit actioner 4.3.2.1. sometime soon, but for now, nada.  So, why even write this column at all this week, you ask?  Well, one title in particular caught my eye- Zyzzyx Road.

This movie has ta notorious place in movie history, and I had absolutely no idea that the 2006 release hadn’t made it to DVD yet.  Of course, perhaps what’s more surprising is that it’s hitting DVD at all, considering it’s the lowest grossing theatrical release of all time.  That’s right, it showed in one theater seven times, netting a grand total of $20.  Actually, it pulled in 30 bucks, but 10 were refunded to a makeup artist who worked on the movie and her buddy.  And, now to add an even more tragic postscript to this whole deal, it’s just now hitting DVD.

Living proof that yes, Katherine Heigl’s career has been in a sadder place.
