Sure our last installment had all kinds of snazzy Marvel announcements, but I’m a bit more excited for the blockbuster franchise news today. That’s right, Black Dynamite is getting not one, but two sequels (on top of the Adult Swim cartoon that recently debuted its first trailer)! If you haven’t seen that flick yet, you need to get right on that, as Michael Jai White’s blaxploitation spoof was one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in the last few years. That’s about it as far as details go, but that’s all I need.
He will not hesitate to lay the hammer down on any clown that comes around. What more do you need?
In further Michael Jai White/Black Dynamite news, White will team up with the director of that flick, Scott Sanders, with Aztec Warrior. This comedy will be focused on the world of lucha libre and star Luis Guzman and Terry Crews, hopefully culminating in a gritty battle royale between those two for the title of El Luchador Supremo.
If I learned anything from Nacho Libre, bet on the chubby, loud one
Now for what is most likely not going to be a rolling in the aisles comedy. Spike Lee is producing Son of the South, a film from his long-time editor Barry Alexander Brown that will star Rafe Spall as Bob Zellner. Zellner came from a racist family background that included KKK members, but went on to join the Civil Rights Movement. It sounds like some prime material for a Lee protégé, although what catches my eye most is the casting of Zellner’s wife- 17 year old Jacqueline Emerson.
I guess living in the Districts speeds up the courtship process a bit
